Polyester

Polyester is a class of polymers that chiefly contains Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). Polyester is a synthetic polymer produced using PTA and MEG. Polyester Yarn is the fundamental items in the polyester classification. Right around 40% of the world creation of polyester is specifically used to make Polyester Yarn. Polyester yarn is made by direct spinning of PTA and MEG. A portion of the world’s biggest PTA items are British Petroleum, Reliance, Sinopec, Sk-Chemicals, Mitsui and Eastman Chemicals.

The fundamental utilization of Polyester has been in the Textiles field for making Polyester Yarns. Polyester in various structures is utilized broadly as a part of textile application to make polyester (PET) resin and Filament Yarn, for example, Partially Oriented Yarn (POY), Polyester Drawn Textured Yarn (DTY), Polyester Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY), Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF), Polyester Spun Yarn (PSY), Technical Yarn, Tire cord and Mono filaments Yarn.

Polyester is used in the manufacturing of all kinds of clothes and home furnishings like bedspreads, sheets, pillows, furniture, carpets and even curtains. The disco clothing of the 70s with all its jazz and flash was made of polyester.

Characteristics of polyester

Polyester fabrics and fibers are extremely strong.

Polyester is very durable: resistant to most chemicals, stretching and shrinking, wrinkle resistant, mildew and abrasion resistant.

Polyester is hydrophobic in nature and quick drying. It can be used for insulation by manufacturing hollow fibers.

Polyester retains its shape and hence is good for making outdoor clothing for harsh climates.

It is easily washed and dried.

While clothing used to be the most popular use of polyester and which made it a household name worldwide, there are many other uses polyester is put to.Due to its strength and tenacity polyester was also used to make ropes in industries. PET bottles are today one of the most popular uses of polyester.

PET: The most common use of polyester today is to make the plastic bottles that store our much beloved beverages. Shatterproof and cheap these bottles are an absolute boon to the beverages industry.
