Spandex yarn

Spandex is a type of elastic material that is made from synthetic fibers. It is commonly used in the production of stretchy clothes, particularly for athletic wear. Although some people may think that clothing made from spandex is too tight, it is designed to be worn in tight-fitting garments. Spandex is also known as Lycra and is primarily used as an elastic yarn in clothing. Spandex yarn can stretch four to seven times its original length, depending on the underlying yarn. After stretching, the spandex yarn can return to its original length. Although the Lycra yarn may look like it's made up of one continuous filament, in reality, it is made up of a large number of fibers. The elasticity of Lycra means that the size of the clothes does not change after washing and use, and the fabric can return to its original shape (unlike cotton fabrics, which have a change in size and shape). This yarn with common numbers: 20, 30, 40, 70,140, 210 etc. Are imported from China, Turkey, and Vietnam.

Spandex Yarn Properties

  • High thermal resistance
  • Softness
  • Good oxidation resistance but weak resistance to bleaches.
  • Appropriate acid and alkali resistance
  • weak abrasion resistance
  • High UV resistance

How to use spandex yarn

Spandex yarns are usually used in combination with other filaments, whether they are natural or synthetic. The amount of elasticity of the fabric is determined by the filament used with the spandex. The type of texture and its intended use also play a role in determining the type of yarn to be used. Although adding 2% Lycra yarn can impact the properties of the fabric, swimsuits, and sportswear that require a lot of movement and stretch usually use 20-30% spandex. The use of this yarn is also determined by the weaving method and the texture of the fabric.
